Ignited Vol 1 Desni Dantone Books
I really enjoyed this series. I generally stay away from stories about gods and demigods, but this story was too intriguing to pass up and I am glad I didn't. Perhaps because the gods don't really meddle with everything taking place and the story is really a good versus evil. The story follows the well worn path of danger appears, hero introduces girl to new world, they go to training center which is a bad idea, and they end up ending the evil on their own fulfilling the prophecy. I am not knocking it, I really, thoroughly enjoyed it, but if you won't, you've now been forewarned.
The great things that really stuck out to me were the characters. They were all very well developed. Kris didn't start off an annoying, foolish character. She starts out as a strong individual who grows as the she gets stronger. There is somewhat a love triangle, but Kris keeps her head and knows herself through it. The character I found the most refreshing was Nathan. You don't find many books where the strong male lead isn't next to all powerful and untouchable much less having moments of vulnerability. Nathan is very down to earth, yes he is the top fighter and yes he is great at camping, but it pretty much ends there.
Even though it follows a well known structure, there are constant surprises (good and bad) that kept me on my toes the whole time. The pace is set pretty fast and there wasn't ever a lag in the story keeping me interested from start to finish. It contains adventure and international travel, intense fight scenes, and a warm story line and a surprise ending I didn't see coming.
Also, kudos to the author for writing a story from different perspectives and not dragging the reader through the same scenes but continuing with the story line where the other character left off. It can be annoying to have the story told from multiple perspectives, but that is not the case in the Ignited series.

Ignited Vol 1 Desni Dantone Books Reviews
Kris has been traumatized with a series of events that she came out of alive, while her loved ones died. Kris has always remembered her savior(who she though was her guardian angel), and she has always wanted to question him. When evil comes to Kris's doorstep demanding compliance, she gets to, once again, witness the hot wrath that is her savior, Nathan. Secrets are being kept from her for her own "safety", but what neither of them know is all of the knowledge that Kris doesn't know is actually quite vital for her survival. Along the way of survival comes feelings and secrets will be revealed. Why does evil need Kris? Who is Nathan? Will they survive together?
This was a GREAT book! I was always kept on my toes and there were some VERY unexpected complications that both Nathan and Kris had to face. What I really liked was the use of Greek Mythology told from a different point of view. I really want to read the next book and hope to have the chance to. There was definitely a LOT of humor and I think I freaked my mom out all of the times she caught me laughing hysterically. p There is cussing, but the F-Bomb isn't one of them. The most parents will have to worry about is violence, which also isn't too bad. I would definitely consider this clean teen/ya appropriate.
I really enjoyed Ignited. As soon as I picked the book (e-reader, technically) up, I was sucked into Kris's adventure. I absolutely refused to stop reading. The next book in the series cannot come soon enough!
Kris is a great main character. She is relatable, snarky, and realistic enough that I started seeing her as a real person. Also, she has character growth. By the end, I could see how she was stronger! And I felt her connection with her grandma. Another favorite character, for me at least, is Nathan. At first, I was not a fan of him. At all. Actually, I kind of wanted to punch him when he wasn't giving us information. In the first bit of the book, he is pretty darn silent when it comes to what is happening to Kris. By the end, however, it was a very different story. I now think of him as sweet and protective instead of a jerk.
I really liked the adventure aspect of the book! While the two characters, Kris and Nathan, are traveling I loved how all the action played out. Also, the book never lagged. There was always something happening that kept my interest, whether it was a fighting scene or something fishily magical. However, the book wasn't overly fast paced with no time for development. Also, the plot was perfect. It was creative, with twists, and not to predictable.
The well developed (I'm all about story development today I guess. Sorry!) romance was another favorite part in my opionion. It starts out as witty banter and a bit if tension between the two characters. There is no insta-love or insta-kissing. I am breathing out in palpable relief as I type that sentence, which no one can blame me for, right? Also, the banter and tension was fabulous, if I do say so.
The editing in this book was so amazing! I don't think there was a single mistake which always points to the fact that the author and team worked super hard to make this the best book possible!
Overall, this book was a quality read that I hope many people will experience! I laughed, felt my heart beat out of my chest, smiled, and gasped while reading Ignited. Who doesn't love a good book that creates such wonderful emotions? I cannot wait to continue the series!
4/5 Stars
