Meeting Mr Wrong The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle Stephanie Snowe 9781592994014 Books

This book is horrifyingly hilarious. Horrifying because it's true, and I did enough time in the Deep South to know it's true, including the guy who said "Marry me! We could get a two-bedroom!" and the guy named Big Pimpin' Willie. (Stephanie's question was "Is that a biblical name?" Nobody else in the room thought it was funny.)

Hilarious because even though nobody else in the room thinks what she says is funny, it IS funny. This book is a series of humor-snacks, short little chapters each detailing a disastrous horrible date that would make you want to kill yourself, except it is funny the way Stephanie tells it.

But, you know what? The true glory of her book isn't in the major arc of each story, awesome as that arc might be -- like the guy who vomited when he tried to kiss her didn't actually splash her with vomit because she was warned by the gigantic belch he let out first, and so she jumped to the side and therefore avoided the vomit, and is that an awesome story arc or what?

But, no, the true glory is in the tiny verbal gems that sparkle within each story. For example, her date Bob, whose socks match his sweater perfectly, is sobbing and flailing on a barstool because his father doesn't love him. He's getting really, really loud and really, really active, until Stephanie is afraid that his "perky hindquarters" will skid off the barstool. Perky hindquarters. With those two words, I know so much about Bob that I can tell him exactly why his father doesn't love him.

There's pain here, especially during the awful phone call with her ex that reminds her why she left him. Most of us have had those phone calls, but the banal poison of them can still surprise you with its strength even if you know exactly how it's going to turn out. But even though some of the book is painful, there are always the perky hindquarters to cheer you up.

So, yeah, this book will make you laugh even though you wouldn't have thought you'd laugh about some of that stuff. Just probably don't read it when you're in the room with anyone else. The other reviewers are right -- if you try to explain what's so funny, whoever else has been listening to you laugh will just give you the side-eye. If you try to read a paragraph aloud to demonstrate what's so funny, you'll end up snorting rather than actually saying words. It's frustrating. Oh, you'll just have to read it yourself and you'll see what I mean.

Meeting Mr Wrong The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle Stephanie Snowe 9781592994014 Books Reviews

This book sustained my interest in online dating adventures with its humor; however, at the end the humor disappeared and Ms Snowe forgot the entertainment. I was disappointed.
I hate it when I get mixed feelings over a book. Meeting Mr. Wrong The ROmantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle, however, proved itself to be such a book.

First off, I have to say that I am a huge chick lit fan and although this book is a true story, it read like a chick lit which was a definite plus for me. I also love the storyline. A woman trying to find her soulmate or, at the very least, she would like to find a guy that can eat, talk and be normal - at least for the duration of one date.

I also thought that the author has a down to earth, honest way about telling her story. She was also brutally honest about her experiences and, at times, extremely funny.

Now, for the small problem that I had with this book. I just could not warm up to the main character at all. I really wanted to, but I just could not get there. This removed some of the fun, for me, in this book.

However, overall the book is a good read and I would actually buy the second book in this series, if Snowe wrote another one.
Stephanie Snowe's writing style is great because as you read, you can tell what she was thinking. She writes out her exact reactions to situations, as if she were speaking to you. She tells stories of very uncomfortable first dates and she tells them in a hilarious way. I laughed out loud many times. You can feel her frustration in the weird and upsetting situations she was in but it's mitigated by her sense of humor.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The stories were great, and Stephanie Snowe's storytelling abilities are excellent. I didn't want to put the book down.
Left high and dry, pregnant with twins, just off the altar, Snowe plunges head-first into the internet dating world, despite being told that if she did so an axe murderer would hunt her down and kill her. After weeks of wading through emails from men who clearly were not paying attention to, you know, anything, Snowe ventures onto her first date with Denny and, apparently, all of his coworkers. Thus start the Romantic Misadventures of Ms. Snowe. You'll have to read the book to find out whether Snowe ever finds love in the internet dating world, how fun a date during a hurricane is, and exactly what is so distracting about Big Pimpin' Willie's tattoo.

Very special books do not cross my desk very often, but I am delighted to have read Meeting Mr. Wrong The Romantic Misadventures of a Southern Belle. Snowe writes with such conversational wit that you could imagine laughing with disbelief as she told you her tales over coffee (or a good stiff drink!) I enjoyed Meeting Mr. Wrong so much I finished it the evening it arrived on my doorstep. I very much look forward to her next installment.
Some people are natural-born storytellers, and that's a skill that cannot be taught, bought, or faked. Stephanie Snowe is a natural storyteller. We cringe with her, laugh with her, and root for her throughout her book, and through it all we maintain hope that Prince Charming is waiting in the final pages. Stephanie is able to take a time in her life that must have been very difficult, and use the power of her talent to turn it into an entertaining, heartfelt read. She knows how to select just the right details to make us "see" her characters. She understands how to pace her stories so that you want to stay up to read "just one more chapter" - again and again, until the wee hours of the morning. I read Meeting Mr. Wrong several times, and laughed every time. As a matter of fact, I sometimes randomly think of one her stories when I'm sitting around at work or walking somewhere alone, and start laughing to myself. So I have Stephanie to thank for strangers and my coworkers suspecting that I am insane! I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
